100 books – #33

A cynical private eye, a beautiful and dangerous woman, a violent English thug, and a team of Arab criminals – it’s the perfect recipe for trouble.

And that’s what Chicago PI Joe Killan finds, as he searches for an ancient cross of gold and precious jewels, a search that leaves five men dead and Killan caught in a crossfire between modern Muslim extremism and old-fashioned American greed.

A unique blend of unsettling fact and exciting fiction, The Crux Ansata is a fresh take on the detective genre – noir fiction with a modern attitude.

It’s a smart and sexy update to a classic plot, finely tuned for today’s readers.

It took me a lot longer to read this book that I had hoped, I got sucked in really quick then had to stop reading it for a while, then I kinda forgot what had happend.

That aside I really enjoyed the book, the story line was well play out but if I am honest the ending was a little poor. It just kinda cut to the chase and ended.

Murder on the links - Adam Maxwell

Clint had woken up in some strange places in his time. Narcolepsy is like that. But even he had never woken up on a golf course next to a dead body. Until today.
When one of his friends reveals himself to be a detective Clint jumps at the chance to tag along. But his friend is an idiot. And the police are beginning to suspect that he was involved. The identity of the killer seems obvious but can Clint get to the bottom of the mystery and save his own skin before the stag party catches him?
Murder. Intrigue. Alcohol. Detectives. Clues. Golf. Laxatives. What else do you need?

Cat Chaser - Adam Maxwell

It’s the first case for Clint, probably the world’s only narcoleptic detective, and everything should be going really well. To be brutal, it probably would be going a lot better if he’d managed to stay awake when he was briefed.
With four suspects and clues flying will he be able to find out who’s guilty? Or even what they’re guilty of?

Dial M for monkey

Adam Maxwell’s first collection of short stories is inventive, funny, dark, and hugely entertaining. Effortlessly fusing pop culture, gunplay, and simians, Dial M For Monkey contains a vibrant mixture of short stories – and short-short stories including ‘Happiness is a Warm Gun’ which featured in McSweeney’s Internet Tendency.

I am loving this guys short stories! Hope he keeps writing more….

The Part Time People

DeBarrie’s Stationery Store needed help again. Somehow, the part-time people never worked out. It was a problem. One after another, the part-time people came and went, and sometimes, nobody ever found out what happened to them. The newest one seemed even more hopeless than usual. His job application announced “there’s a man who follows me around and ruins everything I try to do”.

Intersting little short story.
