I have crutches — again!!

//<  EDIT = sorry for the spelling mistakes – just realised there are loads and also said it was my right ankle when it ws acutally my left one this time around. Will sort the spelling tomorrow – blame it on the pain I was going through when I wrote this post =) / EDIT //

Urgh what a day!!

I have spent most of the morning from 10:30 until 1pm in A&E.

I slipped on the last 3 stairs in the flat and busted my right ankle – I actually heard it make this horrible popping sound – urgh.  Lee was ahead of me and outside and came back to see me contorted at the bottom of the stairs. Then once I brought my left leg out from underneath me my face just paled as I just knew that something wasnt right – my foot did acutally bend the wrong way when i went over on it! Still have no idea how the hell i did it as i wasnt rushing down the stairs.

Anyway i managed to get sitting up on the stair and oh my god the pain was so bad the shock had set in and i was feeling sick and dizzy.

Off to the hospital for me!

I got seen pretty quick as we explained that I 18 weeks pregnent and had fallen down the stairs. I thought I was going to hit the roof when the triage nurse was feeling around my ankle bone. It looks like I have an golf ball for a ankle bone right now.

We were faced with the dielma of wether to get a x-ray or not as they are funny about this kinda think when you are pregnant – decided to get it done as to be honest i would rather know it was broken and be careful with it for the next 5 months – so off to x-ray it wasnt as sore as i thought i would have been.

Turns out all the damage is just tissue and ligament tearing = no fracture or nothing.

I tell you to look at it and the pain I am in unreal. Hopefully the paracetmol will actually take the edge of the pain away.

So bet you are wondering about the baby – well we asked and got some advice and the midwife says that considering that i didnt fall flat on my belly or hit my belly with anything and it was really just my butt i fell on things should be A Ok – apparently its pretty resilient in there at the moment so thats good. I feel that i have any pain round the base of my back, side, stomach or any bleeding to get myself off to the Triage dept and the other hospital (Stirling this time not Falkirk which was where I was today) and they will check me over.

I have to admit I feel totally fine around the whole bump area – can feel it moving about abit more, guess its been wondering what the hell I have been doing today!

So now the shock has gone the pain is starting to come back so off to take more drugs and stick a bag of peas on it to help with the swelling.

Poor Lee he about had a heart attack! =( Hes looking after me though which is the main thing.

Might still go to Stirling tomorrow just to be on the safe side – will see how I feeltonight and in the morning.

Photos to come!

  1. Big it up babe, don’t be modest! A golf ball? It’s like your ankle has a baked potato stuck in its throat! And that’s after 6 hours and an ice compress! Folks, you shoulda seen it earlier! 🙂

  2. I am so glad you’re okay! Falls, especially down the stairs can be scary eough for a pregnant person – adding in s horrible sprain, makes it so much worse.

At least you’re not like 8 months along and have to work a big’ol belly around those crutches 🙂 (my point is that there i a bright side)
